Pelatihan dan Pendampingan Kader Posyandu dalam Upaya Pencegahan dan Penanggulangan Kusta di Desa Kasiyan, Kecamatan Puger, Kabupaten Jember

Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, primarily affecting the peripheral nerves and skin, and can also affect other organs such as the eyes, muscles, bones, and testicles. In Jember Regency, specifically in Kasiyan Village, Puger District, 149 cases of leprosy were recorded in 2024, including 56 new cases in children aged 0–14 years. This disease requires special attention because it can cause permanent disability, reduce quality of life, and create social stigma. Efforts to prevent and control leprosy are crucial, including through early detection, timely treatment, community education, and psychosocial support. Observations in Kasiyan Village, Puger District, Jember Regency, indicate a lack of knowledge and skills among integrated health post (Posyandu) cadres in recognizing the signs of leprosy and implementing prevention and control measures. To address this situation, Posyandu Cadre Training and Mentoring activities were carried out in efforts to prevent and control leprosy. Through this activity, cadres gained an increased understanding of early symptoms, transmission prevention methods, and strategies for managing leprosy in the community. Evaluation results showed a 61% increase in cadre knowledge, from 19.33% before the activity to 80.33% after.
