Abstract

Monitoring the nutritional status of school-aged children (5–12 years old) is no longer carried out regularly as it is for infants and toddlers at community health posts (posyandu). Kindergarten age is still considered an early childhood stage that requires attention to prevent long-term negative impacts on health. Kindergartens play an important role in monitoring children’s nutritional status. However, not all kindergarten teachers can accurately perform anthropometric measurements and determine the nutritional status of their students. Kindergarten teachers in the Ikatan Guru Taman Kanak-kanak Indonesia (IGTKI) of Sumbersari District, Kombel Cluster 1, Jember Regency, served as partners in this community service activity. The proposed solution involved training in anthropometric measurement and the use of an Android-based application for recording nutritional status. The nutritional status monitoring application developed by the community service team is simpler, making it easier for kindergarten teachers to implement. There was an average increase of 11.6 points in knowledge scores after the educational intervention, as measured by pre- and post-test questionnaires. Monitoring and evaluation of the partners indicated that they required a standard operating procedure (SOP) for assessing the nutritional status of kindergarten students, a clear division of responsibilities during the measurements, and repeated practice sessions to ensure accuracy. In addition, the partners did not experience difficulties operating the application; however, they still needed adjustments in field practice since they were accustomed to recording data manually.
